Classroom Writing
The kids wrote an expository paragraph (last year our subject was on how to build a birdfeeder). We will have a new writing subject this year, and pictures will be coming soon!

Halloween Play
The third graders performed a Halloween play titled When Owl Lost His Hoot. This reader's theatre gave them the opportunity to practice projection, articulation and expression. They did a great job and had tons of fun!
Vocabulary Hat Parade
After the kids received their free dictionaries from the Rotary Club, they chose a new word from the dictionary to learn the meaning of, and decorate a hat that clearly defined the word. We had several judges in the building who judged each hat for the following categories: Best Word and Most Creative Hat. It's a very hard decision for our judges every year, but our winners were carefully chosen after much debate. Each hat was well worthy of a prize, great job guys! (These pictures are from last year's class - pictures of our class coming soon!)
Popcorn Book Reports
After studying the elements of a story, the third graders chose a picture book in their AR reading level to read and present as a book report. The report was presented on a bag with a description of the characters, setting, and plot (problem and solution). The bags were filled with popcorn and the kids enjoyed their popcorn while sharing book reports with each other. (These pictures are from last year's class - pictures of our class coming soon!)
Rock Gardens
As a part of our geology unit, the students designed their own rock gardens and identified several different rocks and classified them as either igneous, metamorphic, or sedimentary. I am always amazed at how much our third grade rock hounds know about geology! So fun!
Biography Presentations
The third graders chose a remarkable individual to do their biography narrative on. First, they read a biography about their chosen person and then wrote a report in first person narrative and presented it to the class in costume. Their life-sized figures were displayed in the hallway for all to read and see. They were awesome!
